# 9.4 - Transfer Rank Policy

Blaine County Sheriff's Office: Rank Transfer Policy

The Blaine County Sheriff's Office has a structured policy for handling rank transfers within the department. According to this policy, any officer seeking a rank transfer at the patrol rank levels will undergo an assessment which may result in rank adjustments. Specifically, an officer's rank may be reduced by one level unless they are already a probationary officer, in which case no rank changes will occur. This process includes a comprehensive review of the officer's service record and performance history.

The decision to maintain or reduce the officer's rank will depend on several factors including:

* **Service Record:** Officers with exemplary service records may be eligible to retain their current rank upon transfer.
* **Performance Reviews:** Consistent positive performance reviews are crucial for rank retention.
* **Commanding Officer Recommendations:** Input from supervising officers will also influence the final decision.

By adhering to this policy, the Blaine County Sheriff's Office aims to ensure fairness and maintain high standards throughout its ranks. Officers are encouraged to strive for excellence to improve their eligibility for retaining their rank during such transfers.

#### Transfer Procedure for Supervisory Rank

Any officer requesting a transfer into the Blaine County Sheriff's Office at the supervisory rank level must undergo a comprehensive evaluation. This assessment will be based on the officer's service record, disciplinary actions, departmental activities, performance, feedback from commanding officers, and patrol activity.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://www.blainecountysheriffoffice.org/sop/section-9-promotions-and-transfer-ranks/9.4-transfer-rank-policy.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
